Rogue Trader: The Dark of Khalason
The Khalason Sector
Much of Sector Khalason, also known as the Khalason Territory, is unexplored and unknown, for it lies on the far edge of Imperial space, and little effort has been made by the broader organizations of the Imperium to truly investigate this frontier of the Eastern Fringe. The Khalason Crusade of Warmaster Yuverak made initial headway into the territory that would come to be known as Sector Khalason, fighting against Chaos-aligned worlds and Traitor Marines of the Archenemy, as well as independent human domains and foul xenos realms, however, it was a much smaller operation compared to many of the grander campaigns of the Imperium’s past. Worlds such as Renkov’s Gambit and Dolnor’s Holdfast (named after Lord Militant Dolnor, a commander under Warmaster Yuverak who ordered and oversaw the transformation of the planet into a fortress-world, and who later led the successful defense of it against a Chaos assault, then a second time against Ork Freebooters) and systems such as the Petongrad System were settled, and worlds such as Zeraken were initially surveyed. With support not only from his own large Imperial Guard and Navy detachments, but also from a variety of Astartes Chapters, Mechanicus groups, and Adeptus Sororitas sisterhoods, it seemed as though Yuverak was perched on the edge of bringing yet another wide realm into the glorious light of the Emperor. Alas, it was not to be so, for Yuverak’s armies were not destroyed from without, but rather from within. Tyranid incursions and the need to check the advances of the Tau Empire caused authorities from all arms to move troops around and out of the Khalason theater, and soon Yuverak’s Crusade was no longer actively advancing the borders of the Imperium, but rather simply defending the ground his forces had paid in blood and sweat to acquire. When Warmaster Yuverak himself was killed while subjugating an independent human domain, the Crusade truly died down, with the remaining forces redeploying or, in a few instances, settling down to garrison this wild and new frontier. Worlds such as those of the Petongrad system, Dolnor’s Holdfast, and Anchoroth, where Roosthall, the Fortress-Monestary of the Viridian Harriers stands tall and proud, are relatively secure, however, the rest of the Sector is untamed, and often a mystery to the Imperium’s adepts. Nonetheless, the Khalason Territory calls to opportunists across local space and the wider Imperium, and people of all walks of life journey here: Pilgrims wishing to see holy sites commemorating the heroes of the Crusade, captains bearing Free Charters coming to seek their own fortunes in territories where few established trade routes yet exist, and even Rogue Traders, who view the entire expanse as a place full of resources to exploit, worlds to claim, and profits to be made.
